House Representative Leslie Herod has become a household name as she has risen to be a fierce advocate for marginalized communities and an especially effective lawmaker for criminal justice reform. Originally from Colorado Springs, Rep. Herod represents Colorado’s 8th District which encompasses Northeast-Central Denver including Colorado’s Historic Five-Points neighborhood. A true pioneer in Colorado politics, Rep. Herod is the first Black LGBTQ person to hold office in the State legislature. She led the charge this Spring to pass what is currently the nation’s leading police reform bill. Representative Herod took a moment out of her busy schedule to sit down with DBA President Kevin McReynolds and President-Elect Tyrone Glover to discuss her past victories and current challenges at the state capitol.
